Stupid question # 1
the Sixty 5 Dad's restoring / building is coming along nicely. It wont be on the road this year tho, (Mum is hoping it takes even longer to keep him in the garage and out from under her feet)
A throw away comment made to us was 'will you be fitting an oil cooler' got me thinking and wondering. Dad says no way as it works well enough in India and its hotter there than here, even in this summer. Dad's mate thinks it should and its and easy enough job to do.
Thoughts please.

They are air cooled, not oil cooled, Royal Enfield originally said they built the oil tank into the crankcase to aid warming the oil in our UK climate?

If your Dad wants to, let him. However, it'll do no good and apart from costing money it might reduce the efficiency of the oiling system but hey! when did common sense have anything to do with it. No British singles of this era had oil coolers and Enfields are not known for overheating (quite the reverse in cooler conditions,) except in the kind of weather that gets any ICE vehicle panting!

An alloy cylinder barrel would be easier to fit.

It takes too many miles to get the oil hot enough as it is!

Peteduke your dad could always fit an external oil filter, if you do a search entitled “for Pete f “you should see the photos of my conversion, if that doesn’t bring it up search for external oil filter and that will bring up the items. Obviously not everyone agrees with an external oil filter but it means you can use a screw on car filter as well as the standard felt filter.

I have posted these before, but they might be interesting for anyone who has not seen them before.
Oil temperature is rarely over 50/60c even on the hottest days. Ideal is around 80c.

Oil filer/cooler. Totally unnecessary.
