I'm in the home stretch on my restoration. I installed the new primary o-ring into a pristine-ly clean groove w/o any sealer. I installed the cover... but it leaks. So before using any sealant...I'm wondering what others have done for this. Thanks, Jim

Check the O-ring is thicker that the depth of the groove, and the mating surfaces are in fact flat.

Thanks for the feedback - The o-ring is new and has a good profile extending about half its diameter in and out of the groove. The cover is fairly flat... it's within 1/64th of an inch or even less. It was chromed... I did use a die grinder with an abrasive disk to rough up the gloss of the chrome.

Today I removed the o-ring and cleaned the grove with acetone. I taped off both sides around the grove and then applied a light coat of automotive gasket silicone into the groove. I then pulled the tape and put the o-ring back in. I put the cover back on and tightened it to set the o-ring into the sealant. I'll give it 24 hours and try to re-fill with ATF. I'll let you know how it goes.
