I'm trying to remove the splined thrust washer (page 10 and part number 10 in the parts book) in order to remove the drive sprocket. It moves a very little... Has anyone encountered this?

I've tried a little heat and I tried backing the sprocket nut into it to push it out... but to no avail.

Any ideas?

Anything with splines can tend to form a notch on the pressure side into which it gets locked, rocking side to side might move it out of that hollow rather the push/pull. Of course this is just a guess until someone more knowledgeable comes along.

Leon, you are absolutely correct. These thrust washers can be a pig to remove, however it should come off with the sprocket itself, try rocking the sprocket and pulling at the same time.

Thanks for the replies. It will move about 1/16" off the home seated position. Could be that the outer spines the basket uses are a little widened from use... but it's cast so it shouldn't deform that much. I'm a little afraid to use the nut as a pusher to force it off... maybe order a new one and see if it will make it over the splines... then cut the old one off? Frustrating.

I finally got it. I did try using the sprocket nut... It reached the end of it threads about the same distance it was already out. I drove the nut all the way back to the sprocket and filled the open area with a thick washer that I cut in half. I then drove the nut out again until the end of the sprocket nut threads...turned back and put another washer between the nut and thrust washer to allow more sprocket nut threads to do the work. Once half way down the spline... I used a ball joint remover to pry off the rest of the way.

I finally got to the oil seal which was leaking and is as hard as a rock...
