Hi folks, the seat on my 1960 Super Meteor has quite a "step down" from the pillion to riders end. Is this normal or has mine "sagged" over the years or been lowered?
I'm a shade over 6ft 4in and would like to sit a couple of inches further back if I can and the stepped seat makes this more difficult.
I know new replacements are available from our hosts but don't want to find that the new ones are the same.
Do Indian seats fit? Are they as stepped down?

Cheers
Dave

The standard Indian Bullet seat is also quite stepped, though there are flatter-based versions available for e.g. the Sixty-5 model, not so sure about the current B5 item. I have seen them fitted to later Redditch frames, though you'd have to play around with the bracketry.

Our host's reproductions of the later Bullet/twin seats look a bit chunkier than the originals, with much deeper sides, compared with photos of the originals, they also look a bit longer at the back. I shall tray and get a picture of the underside of one of these on here so you can see how stepped it is.

Sorry, the first picture was supposed to have been captioned "1. Modern repro Redditch seat fitted:"

Don't know why that didn't appear.

Thanks Adrian, mine looks like the original bullet one.
As you say, the repro one does look less stepped.
You can see the step on mine taken whilst it was up on the ramp.

OK, I've checked the Hitchcocks' repro Redditch seat off another bike (the seat is identical to the one in my first picture) the base is stepped down by about 1.5" from the back to the front.
