I am slowly rebuilding a 1956 500 twin left to me. Some parts of it have been supplied in a large bin. Looking at Hitchcocks parts diagram for the bike at http://www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/pa ... And_Chains_ I think I have all of the required pieces.

What I can't work out is exactly how the stand and its mount go onto the bike. Can anybody help or point me at a photo anywhere?

Thanks in advance.

Colin, the 'prop stand adaptor' part number 41628 fits on it's taper into the matching boss on the frame which is next to the rear pillion footrest loop on the left side. The rest of the parts assemble as shown in the diagram. I am working on a very early 1958 Meteor Minor myself at the moment.

Thank you for the prompt reply Mark M. I took a quick look in poor light last night but couldn't see this. I'll take another look in better light else post a photo of my bike and parts. Good luck with the Meteor Minor.

Sorry Colin, I made a mistake. I thought the 1956 frame for the 500T was the same as all the other models but it appears it kept the previous frame with the big cast swinging arm lugs. Which means you still have a tapered hole in the frame, but it is part of the lug that supports the swinging arm. The pillion footrest has a taper on it and this goes in first, followed by the propstand pivot block which has 2 lugs which engage with matching recesses in the outer face of the footrest, the whole lot held together by a long stud and special over-size nuts. When assembling make sure you get a metal to metal contact on the tapers, too thick a coat of paint on these faces allows the taper to turn under load and your P & J will end up on the ground. You can guess how I know!

Thanks Mark M - that makes sense. I'll need to do some homework about stud length and nut sizes. I could see the propstand fitment has the same taper and slot as a pillion footrest but didn't work this out.
