Hi I am sure I have read someone on here say that a washer can get misplaced when people take the gearbox cover off and that it causes the neutral finder to rub when selecting gear. I think that might have happened to me as I had my gearbox cover off the first week I bought my bike as I broke the kicker return spring. I have looked at the parts book and can't see any washer on the diagram. Incidentally I had a good ride today up to newlands corner to meet my mate. I guy there had an old 350 which looked tidy.

According my my parts catalogue. The washer you're looking for is 111196. Sadly, our hosts haven't got one in stock.

Thanks Barry I see it now on the partsbook it is not very clear on there which is why I must have missed it. I think my washer must have been missing to begin with when I got the bike as I was careful to keep track of the parts and take photos when I did the spring and have not seen it knocking around on the garage floor. I will ring hitchcocks next time I want to buy something and see if they can get it. Is that code a hitchcocks part number or a royal enfield part number?

Order the washer anyway.. you'll have it as soon as they do. That will buff out... fine emery paper then a good polishing cream.

It looks to me as if it might be bent in a bit, just after where it goes on to the shaft there seems to be a deflection in the shadow.

Hi just looked at neutral finder lever on my 1994 bullet, the little pointer that shows what gear you are in is appeox 2 mm clear of outer cover and the lever boss is pretty tight on the cover.looking down on it lever is straight and has good clearance to cover . As another has said check lever is not bent.

Hi sorry for the late reply but I took the neutral lever off again trying to work out where the washer should go and then after squint at the the microscopic parts diagram and seeing it still unavailable through our hosts I worked out that I had the washer after all. I had mistakenly refitted it behind the neutral lever cap between the cap and the big spring. It was getting mangalised in there but the vice and a bit of sand paper sorted it out and I refitted it with plenty of grease, result lever is no longer rubbing. Also because of the liberal amount of grease everywhere the mark from the lever rubbing isn't very bad. Next job is to see why my gearbox drain nut is leaking the SAE 140 gear oil I filled up with all over my garage floor. I am going to measure the plug washer and order a suitably sized dowdy washer if that doesn't fix it I will be using grease instead of oil.
