As you probably know I am having no end of bother getting this sodding bike to run correctly... Today me and my mate Mark who's an engineer have reset the ign timing and gone through every permeation of jets and needle setting from 106-108 needle, 220-340 main and 3 and 3.5 slide etc... Still wont rev out.. I've gone back to std cams and pinion this evening to eliminate any possible valve timing issues.

I'm wondering whether something more serious is amiss.. I may yet have the head off and take a look..

Hi Tom, if the engine starts and runs well enough to get you going quite well up to certain speeds and with all else that has been done and discussed, I doubt taking the head off is the answer. If it were my bike, I would be back on points for the ignition by now, as I strongly suspect there is something amiss in that department. If no joy there, I would be trying another carb. Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul.
A funny thing happened when we were out at the weekend trying to sort it out.... I went round a roundabout i.e. right hand lean and the bike picked up off of the roundabout like a scolded polecat for a few yards and then died of again... We suspected fuel feed from tank to carb so changed the tap to one that pisses like a donkey but it made no difference... I'm miffed at the moment..

We also tried float height but that seems OK..

Hi Tom, based on your experience on the roundabout, it might be worth checking for a loose connection in the wiring? Regards, Paul.

It was a wiring problem that caused a friend of mine to "park" his trike on top of a wall recently. Engine "died" then revved up flat out, causing the front wheel of the trike to "wheelie" in an alarming fashion of sufficient height to clear the wall.

Well I thought I'd give it a go.... Turned on fuel.. Tickled carb... Turned on ign... Started first kick... Adjusted tick-over.. Running lovely... Not ridden it but reckon it might've been cam settings.. I've fitted a new ignition coil and the engine sounds really sweet.. Obviously std cams would do that but I'll keep them in untill I've run her in..

Hi Guys
Well being in the middle of a house move I finally got out on ASBO 26 again... And wow it shifts... The plug colour is a bit on the black side I'm on 107 middle notch at the moment but she flies... I'll go out for a jetting run at the weekend.. I notched up about 10 miles this evening enough to know its very nearly right.. I can only think that I may have set the performance cams up incorrectly. This maybe down to the adjustable pinion I was using but with the bike currently on std cams and pinion it's running like a dream.. I will drop the high lift ones back in on the std pinion once its run in.. But very impressed with performance at the moment.
