There have been extensive tests with other makes and grades and types of plug. But none produced aceptable results. NGK Japan confirmed that they have no plug to match this standard type for EFI. Not sure what's so special about it, or why no other works as well, but that's been the findings of a number of trials/tests.

Many owners on the U.S. forum use the NGK BRP6ES - plain or iridium. I've had one in my 2010 Electra for most of its 10,000 miles and it's fine. It's the same heat range (I seem to remember the NGK numbering goes the opposite way to the Bosch). It improved cold starting and I remember it seemed to run smoother when I fitted it. Many report similar improvements.
I don't know if they've made changes since my bike, but that stock plug seemed to be peculiar to the Indian market - it certainly couldn't be found anywhere else.
The U.S. forum is a good place to look for insight & info on the efi bikes, pretty much every teething problem (ie shit build quality issue) has been aired there.

The book says WR3CC (Mico). The plug actually has BOSCH on it, but try finding one outside of Chennai.....

I don't doubt some of the findings mentioned here. Plug performance - either poor or satisfactory - can depend on a multitude of factors.

But it does seem odd that both NGK UK and NGK Japan, after examinging a sample of the fitted 'Bosch' standard plug, confirmed that they have no equivalent plug in their range and could recommend no alternative. This must mean that the standard EFI plug must be about the only plug on the planet that NGK can't match with one of their own!

Something strange here.
My book, for my bike (EFI Electra DL)2009, states the plug is( and still is) WR7 DDC4 (Mico/bosch).(and not a WR3CC)
Runs and starts like a goog un.
I have never found an alternative.
Cheers
