Really stupid question...

So my bank holiday monday will be spent fitting our hosts 50's style exhaust to my 350 iron barrel. So my stupid question is do I use exhaust gasket paste at the header and the silencer join or is the fit tight enough not to warrant it? As always, thanks in advance.

Bathroom silicone sealer does very well and does NOT burn off. I've used it for years. -C

Yep, ordinary bathroom sealant. Be prepared to fit spacers to line things up. As Hitchcock's warn you, there's not two frames the same.

And I'll add my vote to that as well------- Exactly as Chris has stated-------Tips}--- make sure as much carbon as possible has been removed...I find that "whetting" the inside of the hole first, then tooling some sealant in, and around there helps it take to the Alooominum head....I'll deliberately put too much on such that when you fit the pipe the surplus willforce its way out at the front.....Having one of our hosts finned heat dissipators pressed up against this surplus will give extra sealing..........Finally wipe off any unwanted surplus with a damp or wet cloth......Leave overnight and ride away in the morning.....Image

thank you gents - bathroom sealant and a bit of brute force and job is done. Have really missed having the bullet on the road as I laid her up over the winter as i was away travelling in india. Cannot wait to get thumping around the lanes of kent and sussex next weekend.

I have fitted a couple of these to a 350, the only problem I found was the bracket on the down pipe
to the frame under the gearbox.I had to bend it to line up to fit .No problems with leaking.
Perhaps I was lucky

Why do you think this was a stupid question? Sounds perfectly sensible to me.When I started off with my Bullet, I asked some much more basic things than that and got lots of help.

Well John R I have owned my bullet for 11 years and been biking for nearly 40. I considered it stupid because I would have expected to know the best way to fit a bullet exhaust by now. I actually could not remember the best answer specifically for a bullet so I knew here was the place and it was (as always).
