My old armature for Lucas dynamo 6V E3LM is worn out, so I bought a new one. The first one I received gave an output of 12V instead of expected 7V and my ammeter went over the top. I returned it and received a new one. This gave an output of 17V. Benchtested.
After mail conversation I got an answer from a guy at Feked who says it is normal with an output at 17V and that it is the reglator that should take it down to 6-7V.
To me that doesn´t sound right, or does he have a point?

Yep, he's right. I can convert my 6v matchless to 12v and use the same dynamo.

The output voltage of a dynamo is controlled by the CVC or electronic regulator, this varies the voltage to the field coil. If the output is incorrect then your CVC, regulator is probably the problem not the armature. Yes he is correct.

Thank´s guys for straighten that out for me. I´ll put it back on my bike (G 1949) and check the regulator.

This might be a good time to convert to 12v?
