Hi, does anyone know if an Indian (classic) lower yoke will fit a late (1960) Redditch bullet/twin frame, casquette and fork, shrouds? Thanks.

Hi, yes it will fit. You may have to mix and match the head races. Vince

Just watch the steering stops. They're not all the same and don't all finish up at the same height. I just put an Indian bottom Yoke on my Indian 500 bullet and it needed some -ahem- "modification" so the bump stop hit the stop and not the frame.

Thanks Stinkwheel, I'll look out for that.

My AVL hybrid uses an Indian Lightning bottom yoke (+ Superstar top yoke) in a Super Meteor frame. As per Vince's comment on steering head races, with the right bits used it fitted straight in. I was spared stinkwheel's need to modify further.

Beware the later (post 2002?) Indian bottom yokes however, as they changed the design of the steering stops and the plate for the steering lock is in the way. You can cut this off and get some tangs welded on to match the older design, but it's easier to get the right one.

I seem to recall Mr H. still has some used Redditch yokes for sale.

Thanks Adrian, trying to save cash as Indian ones are cheaper and more readily available. My original has a well worn thread and the nut had been previously tightened on cross threaded. May well just get the right one from Hitchcocks.
