Don't think it's worth considering for a conversion as the frame seems too flimsy to me. Re-register should be ok through REOC if halfway original, see REOC website for quite good explanation of how to do it.

You get an MOT on the frame number and a letter from REOC with (hopefully) a confirmation of the bike's details. Approach the DVLA with these (local office is your best bet) You either get the original number if it's tracable and available or an age related number. If you are given an ARN it is not transferrable. DVLA might want to see the bike to confirm frame and engine numbers.

Pete F is mostly correct but a few points: you will have to trace the original number yourself, DVLA won't do it but they can confirm if it's available or not. The more research you do the better chance your application will have. NO reclaimed numbers whether from original documentation (log book etc,) or age related can be transferred any more. Existing numbers can still be transferred if they had this entitlement at the time. I've registered several machines in the last few years and have found the local DVLA office (mine is Northampton) mostly very helpful. But beware, the Government is going to close all DVLA local offices so who knows what will happen. I expect they've thought it all through, as usual. (Not!)

I recently bought an early 60's tiger 90 from a dealer that had been put away and forgotten about by the previous owner. It had been off the road for 10 or so years after restoration and had not been "sorned". No probs getting an MOT but when the dealer tried to tax it DVLA wanted to know where it had been for 10 years, so far as they were concerned the vehicle no longer existed because it had n't been sorned. They wanted to examine the vehicle, then check with the Triumph owners club the numbers before issuing the original or a new reg. number. Add to this the beaurocracy and it's been about 6 weeks so far and still no V5 issued. Quite frankly it's been a right pain in the arse.

Paul, I think the Clipper frame is lighter in tube thickness and fittings all over but you must be the judge!
