You could try ethanol, available from hardware shops and fireplace suppliers. It's a good solvent for fuel! REgards, Mark

Soaking in acetone works but it will dissolve a lot of plastic/rubber parts.
Don't underestimate how effective a cleaner hot, soapy water is.

My 2003 service manual states; compressed air to clean air filter and kerosene or diesel to clean non electrical or rubber parts.

Be careful how you scroll over that link----it does work, just mind the dashes at the front............I have one of these and they work a treat !!....OK, you don't have to go out and spend £100 + but there are several bike and car restorers out in the public domain who advertise their services with an Ultrasonic cleaner.........The best part is that it'll clean ALL jet holes no matter how small they are....I've done carbs for Puch Maxi and Honda PC50 with great success............There's also Soda Blasting for general cleaning of the body, slide, top etc....It's non-aggressive and is a one-time only process in which the Baking Soda crystals disperse in the air or can be washed away.....
