Gearbox is a 1955 Albion on a 700cc twin. Bike not in use about 20 years. Gearbox would not shift into 3rd or 4th. Gearbox torn down, cleaned, sealed bearings installed. How does one properly adjust the Adjuster Plate and the detent adjuster screw? Box is currently on the workbench. Yhanks in advance for any advice. Steve

Hi Steve,
As you're not being flooded with replies I'll have a go...
I think your box is pretty much the same as the Albion boxes fitted to the Bullets more common on this site. The workshop manual says nothing on the topic of adjustment.
When I had my box in pieces earlier this year I tried to figure out what the 'adjuster' actually adjusted. I think it simply adjusts the pre-load on the spring loaded plunger detent. Too little pre-load and the gear operator could move past its stops. Too much and gear changes could become unduly stiff.
The moral of the story is if its working OK leave it alone!
Cheers
Tony R.

hi steve ,the detent ajuster should be screwed right in then backed off by one turn then the nut locked up ,i set the adjusterplate to the middle setting, another thought isi always find these gearboxes easier to work on while in the bike as i once wrestled with one on the kitchen sink to the dissmay of mrs white also dropped a part on the laminate floor causing an horific dent not good head for the divorce courts again, cheers paul.

Steve,
Once the motor and box are back in the bike and it is running you can get the adjustments right fairly quickly, it is too hard to try setting the adjuster plate without being able to ride the bike

I've had my gearbox open recently and can't see anyway that anyhting can be adjusted except for the detent. As far as I can tell it simply all goes togther and that's it, no adjustment possible. (Except for detent and neutral finder stop position with the revolving cam like bolt on the outer casing.)
