I have just purchased a pre owned Royal Enfield Bullit 65 that had an after market Speedo, Smiths chronometric Speedo, from Hitchcock.

The issue I have is that the Speedo is showing MPH but the actual speed is KPH. An example would be that when the Speedo shows 40mph, the actual speed is 30mph (tested on a GPS SPEEDO)

Is their any device I can purchase from Hitchcock to convert the speed to MPH?

Thanks

All REs have highly optimistic speedos and 10% out is to be expected, more as they age and the needle starts to gently wave at you. My experiences with the aftermarket 'Smiths' speedo is that they are worse.

If your is out as much as you say, contact H about it...

It's not a Smith's and it's not chronometric. The things can be wildly inaccurate and the fact that it's showing what seems to be KPH is just coincidental.

As Pete says, neither Smith's nor chronometric, they are magnetic, the Smith's magnetic had an adjusting screw visible through the bulb hole, sorry I don't know if or where you adjust these fakes.

You can try fitting a Motrax Speedo Converter. I have one on my 500 Lightning. My stock speedo is in KPH. The Motrax is a miniature reduction gearbox which fits the rear of the speedo. My speedo now reads in MPH.

If it's from Hitchcocks then it should have been calibrated and be fit for purpose. I used one of these for years and it's was only 3mph up and reliable. It did however start to weave a few thousand miles after I bought it. I drilled a couple of little holes in the side of the casings and sprayed in some WD40. This transformed it and made it behave really well. I

Hi Guys---------- this is from our hosts catalogue..As you can see it's only an original Indian speedo dressed up to give the "Look" of a Smith's Chronometric type....Perhaps the bike's vendor should have made you aware of that ??---debatable at best I would have thoughtImage

This is the standard Indian speedo that has been modified to give the look of the Smiths Chronometric speedos fitted to the Bullets in the 1950's and 1960's. They are available calibrated in miles or kilometers per hour. It is a direct replacement for the original but does not have provision for the small warning lights.
Calibrated in MPH: Part 92576
Calibrated in KMH: Part 92577.

PART No. DESCRIPTION PRICE
92576 SPEEDOMETER (MPH), SMITHS STYLE £38.50

92577 SPEEDOMETER (KPH), SMITHS STYLE £38.50

Part Two !!}--------Meanwhile I would check-out this little rascal...The OE item was in grey plastic...A few years ago mine decided to"Dis-assemble" itself on a Saturday morning in the middle of Bridgnorth High Street on a Bank Holiday week end...Great fun !!..........A change to the metal type and all was well ( not accurate--just well.. )..

This speedo gearbox was used on the earlier models and can be used to replace the later plastic versions.

Note: On later Redditch models the spacer may need modifying.

What Speedo would you all recommend for the Bullet 65?

A handlebar mounted bicycle one! A good one can be set to be accurate to within fractions of a mph until the tyre starts wearing.
It'll tell you the time as well.
