Hi
I have fitted the Hitchcocks chrome oil filter box that comes with a cotton filter.

Do I need to oil the cotton filter?
I have some K&N air filter oil in a spray bottle will that do?
Kind regards
Graham

Thanks, the airbox is bolted to the bike now so I won't have to take it off again to oil the filter will leave it as it is.
I tried starting up the bike with it on makes a huge difference as the bike came with a cone filter stuck on the carb and it was backfiring and spitting through the carb when trying to start. None of that now.

One thing I have noticed about the bike and it still does it with the new airbox is that it is slow to return to idle, it can be idling very slow then if I open up the throttle and rev the engine it will stay running quite fast and then slowly settle down again to the slow idle after about 30 seconds or a minute I don't know if this is normal or not for an Enfield.

Check for air leaks at the intake manifold. Could be a worn carb slide. What carb is fitted?

Hi--- I have just bought the gloss black version of this filter..........Two things}-- 1) The internal threaded bar needs to be Loctited into the top of the body..This will stop it unscrewing in service, and 2}--- You'll need to place a steel tube over this threaded bar to prevent you from over tightening the wing nut and collapsing the filter element....I haven't worked out the length of this tube yet---anyone any ideas ??......Use it dry...Only use K & N filter oil on K & N elements as it's designed specifically for them..........

Its a Micarb I think stock for 1993 Indian built Bullet 500 the intake manifold rubber does look a bit old so will try the WD40 trick I have read about. I did notice a bit of black oil in the mouth of the carb when removing the old cone filter but thought that was due to all the backfiring through the carb I was getting with the cone. I think the engine was running lean with the cone as noticed the exhaust starting to blue. I think the guy who sold it to me did a good job of polishing that off before selling it and might have power washed it. My kickstart spring broke the second day I tried to start the bike and when I took the gear shift cover off to fit a new one water came out!
Alan - the threaded rod at the top did seem a bit loose but seemed ok once I did the wingnut up tight. I put a rubber tap washer with the middle drilled out slightly under the wingnut as it was scratching the power coat on the oblong filter base.

Hello again--- you don't need to remove the whole box just to change the filter !!...It comes out of the hollow bottom of the airbox as shown here} ------> ------->

Hi I know the bottom is hollow but there isn't much room to get in there really and pull the filter out. Well I haven't tried it just looks too tight.
There the new box fitted, I have not had my bike long yet but already fitted some trials bars and the airbox, bits of tidying up to do I think.
