Hitchocks found quality problem and promptlys took them off their cata;ogue quite some time ago. If Alan will not sell them I would not want to buy them elsewhere.

On the BSA WD M20 message board (which has wide discussions on all ex-Military bikes,) there has been quite a bit of comment on these forks which are offered by Indian vendors for several makes including Royal Enfields. Have a look at the experiences of buyers there or to save you time, probably best for safety and sanity if you don't do it!

Why would anyone want to change to girder forks from Teledraulic? When girders will shake the headlamp globes tp pieces.

Quite right Leon, if you've ever ridden girders you wouldn't want to go back to them (well I wouldn't anyway)
They may look cool but ......

That's funny I never said I was going to replace Tele forks I was thinking about a vintage bike I'm looking for parts for, Now does anybody have any EXPERIENCE of these. I've also ridden thousands of miles with girders and have no problems with them.

Rocket, if you follow my link to the WD M20 site,
http://pub37.bravenet.com/forum/static/ ... =0&msgid=0 you will find actual practical experience as I said, not just hearsay.

Hi Mark,
Thanks I've done that but I've still to see comments from people who have actually used them from what I can see these are all friends with slight metallurgical knowledge. As a metallurgist I discount most of these comments. I suspect if you ask the M20 group about Indian Enfield's you would see similar comments. The only points I take on board are the dimensional accuracy but as I accept that I would be probably making some alterations in any case I'd like to know if they are basically usable.

Another possibility might be to ask Hitchcocks direct. I know they looked at stocking the Indian made girders, rejected the idea on grounds of quality and then looked at getting their own made. I believe this project has been shelved on grounds of price but as you wouldn't be stepping on their toes they might tell you, off the record, what their concerns were?

Hi Mark,
Yes I sold Allan some CO forks as patterns a few years ago the steering stem was too short on these to be of any use to me. I've just heard from the Dutch Enfield Guru about someone who bought 20 pairs and scrapped them all so I guess that knocks the idea on the head. I'll just wait another 20 years or so until I find some originals.
Thanks for your help.
Regards John
