Dear All,

Thanks for your help recently with my Magneto removal, pleased to say it all went smoothly and now have the recon Magneto back on the bike. When I removed the timing cover for the first time, a large washer and plastic tube fell out but I cant see for the life of me where the tube came from! It is a see thru tube, about 1/2 inch wide, 4 inches long and curved at each end, doesnt seem to be a uniform shape and has a number of holes and grooves in it which again do not look original....any ideas anyone?

Thanks
richard

Richard, the large washer is probably the one which sits on the end of the timing chain adjuster spindle. The pipe has no place in the original designer's thinking! It wouldn't be the first time rogue objects were found on bikes, I found some spark plugs in a Triumph's oil tank once and recently a nice 6" long drift inside some Crusader forks! Thinking about it, it might have been used by a PO (Previous Owner) to feed oil into the timing chest after a rebuild or oil change. This is good practice by the way, but make sure the pipe stays out, like doing an operation!

Hello all, well the bike is all back together after magneto rebuild (performed by Tony Cooper), fresh oil and fuel and new spark plugs. Did it roar into life first kick?? Not quite. So, fuel flows into the carb and when i tickle the carb fuel comes out the top readily. I have sparks at the plugs although i was expecting a fat blue spark and whilst it is regular and blue, perhaps a little weaker than i thought it might be. Popped some fuel down the cylinder bores to help it on its way and the best I can get is a small backfire every dozen or so kicks.

My leg is about to fall off so have to conceed that its not going to go!

Can somebody give me a checklist I can start with bearing in mind what i have told you above? Prior to the mag rebuild, the bike had not been started in over 20 years but has not been touched or molested since. Many thanks.

Richard
