Hi Guys

I want to take my 1957 clipper frame to local lathe shop to fit bullet engine.
i am thinking of bringing bullet engine crankcases and front mounting plate.
what else should i look for , i dont spare gearbox cases ,
do only the think any other modifications are required to fit bullet engine.

ET you probably know this but you do need a rear wheel or just the hub to align the drive chain. Others will have more suggestions.

ET, are you sure the Bullet engine will fit? I seem to remember someone tried this and there wasn't enough room. It should be simple enough to do a dry run with engine and frame.

I would suggest before contemplating fitting an engine you need to get the project to the stage of it being a rolling chassis, as in both wheels fitted, and aligned, so where the engine has to be placed can be determined accurately.

Thanks for your suggestions and ideas

i have checked one other forum last year, one of guy actually done similar conversion

http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/top ... d-project/

Hitchcock 1960 Bullet frame looks quite like mine .. not sure about measurement though

the clipper frame seems lighter to me and i have invested lot of time collecting parts etc
i hope it goes well

The guy in the Trials Central thread did not actually say he'd done a Bullet into a Clipper frame, he said he'd "done that conversion" which isn't quite the same thing. It might be fine but you really should do a dry run first. And don't believe everything you read on message boards :)

The Clipper frame LOOKS similar to the '54/55 Bullet frame except for that cast lug on the bottom of the front down tube, which I think is where the problem will be as the holes won't line up with the mounting bolt holes in the Bullet front engine mounting plates. Assuming (not safe, I know!) the dimensions are basically the same you might just get away with a set of modified Bullet front engine plates drilled to accept the clipper front mounting bolts, but I'm not holding my breath.

Why are you wanting to do it? A lot of work for little benefit in my opinion. Especially if you are going to pay someone else to experiment on your behalf.

Just about ANYTHING is possible, it just depends how much you want to do it ...
