More work on my pile of scrap 500 bullets. I've got two mikcarbs. Both have had to be totally stripped and ultrasonically cleaned as they were heavily mucked up. Both have been extensively fiddled with.
I've found out which slides, jets and needles to fit but I can't find anything on baseline settings for a standard mikcarb on a standard 500. Specifically the number of turns on the pilot screw (one was 1 3/8 the other was 2 3/4) and the throttle needle circlip position (one was on the bottom groove, which I have never seen used on any carb, the other had fallen off) to give me a starting position to fine-tune from.

OOppss !!------- looks like I've been EDITED !! ( Sorry Mr.H...I should have offered it as a gift ..) STINKWHEEL, try starting off with the needle in the No.3 position ( Convention has it that you number from top to bottom..).........I currently have the full, standard air filter system including the dummy "Tea Caddy" and the air intake "Trumpet" attached to the R/H tool box on my Bullet '65 and our hosts replacement down pipe attached to the open short sausage silencer......My VM28 is brand new with slide as supplied and jetted as per Page 18 but the pilot jet upped to No.35....have put in approx 500 miles so far with no probs.....Pilot Air screw is}---- 3/4 turn OUT from fully screwed in...

Cheers. 3rd notch and 1 turn out got it idling anyway!
Turns out someone has also messed with the float height on both carbs to compensate for a leaking needle valve. Got a new one on order. You'd think the things were made of gold-dust the lengths people go to to avoid changing a needle valve and seat. Yes, on a japanese bike they can mount up but on an Enfield???
