Hi,

I have decided that I am not taking my bike back to the dealership I obtained it from for a variety of reasons/niggles with the bike and attitude of the dealer.

What are the warranty terms on a new Enfield? I assume we can transfer between "any authorised dealership" like with a car. Any advice much appreciated.

I think that you will be ok. Where I live people that bought brand new Triumph motorcycles go to another mechanic that is a Triumph authorised mechanic that sells Polaris motorcycles to have there warranty work done. The Triumph dealers are real arrogant pricks and the word soon got around to get things done by the mechanic at Polaris. He also has a dyno that the Triumph dealer does not have. This does not help you as I live half way around the world from you but does show that a good selling motorcycle sometimes breeds contempt for the customer by some of the dealers. BW is right name and shame.

Might I inject a word of caution at this point ??.....Like yourself NOTTSBLUE I also was involved with a "Rogue Trader" a few years ago but within the Model Engineering hobby....and, like yourself I aired my grievances within an appropriate, well-known Forum....The problem is this}--- if you make statements within the Forum that you say DID happen, or you say their attitude was "Disgusting" etc. and later on it's shown by the Trader they DIDN'T happen or, they happened but in a different way, then both you AND the Forum Moderator / Owner could face charges of Libel......My advice is to wait until you have found a better Dealership then relate the whole story to us but only then in terms of}-- "These were my experiences"

If you would like hear my whole story that I mentioned earlier on then I'm happy to E-mail chat with you......Sorry to bang-on like this but the repercussions are still with me to-day ( as the Trader re-started under a new but similar name ) and it does leave a very bitter feeling long after the case....

That is good advice; some people seem to believe that they can say what they like on the internet. If you express it in terms of "in my opinion....." you are ok with regard to libel (and slander for that matter) as you can only be held to be expressing an opinion, not stating a fact. As far as warranty transfer is concerned your best bet is to seek advice from MotoGB, assuming you are in the UK. What happens elsewhere is of little or no relevance as different countries have different warranties (our American friends for example seem always to get better terms, probably because of the litigious society there eg class actions against manufacturers).

I have stayed away from naming and shaming for precisely the reasons stated. Sometimes it does come down to personality (I like my doctors knowledgeable about medicine and stern whereas others like it when their doctors ask how they are feeling) and whilst mistakes were made, if they'd been dealt with with aplomb I wouldn't have been bothered (it is a Royal Enfield after all).

That being said had an okay experience today and the rattle is gone. but I still want to find a chatty mechanic as looking after my bikes is also my hobby.

FWIW I took the risk on my 2015 LE Despatch on which the warranty is shortly to expire. The supplying dealer didn't fill me with any confidence that they were knowledgeable about UCE REs. In fact they stopped selling them a while ago. I prefer to service my own bikes; that way I know it gets done. Anyway, I put a carb on mine. I adopted the same approach with my Thruxton too. Again, I've derestricted it and improved the brakes and suspension. My risk, not everyone will want to take this approach. (I wouldn't with a new BMW either).

I've torn my warranty up, but any hassle I still ask. The dealer will never take the care I will, ths oil was over filled as delivered, they didn't spot the sidestand switch loom was pulling etc. I've done my own servicing from 600 miles. It had a bad day so I blink coded it, got the TPS warning, sent the dealer a video. RE authorised a new TPS. I think they were wrong as changing the plug the Sunday between them deciding to change it and doing it fixed it, but the lack of argument surprised me. Having got used to BMW doing anything to avoid accepting responsibility I've adopted this plan with my last five bikes. What I saved in dealer charges would have bought me a throttle body if the Indians had acted like Bavarian cowboys. I really don't think RE will have any problem with different dealers. Good luck finding one though, the last dealer mechanic I would have trusted to wash my bike retired years ago.
