I have, like many of us, used the last few days warmer weather to get some running in km on the clock. The bike starts fine on both kick and ES and when I drive out of my garage for the first 3 km it runs fine. Then it starts to missfire and if I open the throttle a little more it cuts completly until I back off. Run a couple of km with less throttle or lower gear and then she runs fine at any throttle setting or gear thereafter. Did this on 3 successive runs. Is this perhaps normal for lower temperatures and whilst running in? (Total km 215). Besides this annoying feature, otherwise the bike runs very well; I think handling is better than the old Bullet, back brake is very weak, but think this is just bedding in. Compared with old Enfields the speedo is very accurate checked against newly installed cycle speedo. Still trying to get my brain round the left side gear change. Regards all

As its new I would mention it too the dealers when you take it  in for the first service. It may be one of the sensors not reading correctly or it may need calibrating both of which a dealer should have the equipment to check.

Hello Trevorch --------- from the speedo reading this sounds like a brand new bike ?? No, of course that's not right. Take it back to the dealer/agent and get them to sort it out----that's what the warranty is all about. Don't play or fiddle with it or give them any excuse to do any a lesser job. Do tell us how you get on ??( my guess is it's a fuel-based problem). Incidentally, after 40 years riding "Left hookers" I'm also trying to get my head around a R/H change----- odd world, aint it ??

You proberbly know this already, But I always, in winter and summer stand the bike on idle, whilst kitting up in helmet. gloves etc. This at least gives the bike half a chance to warm the oil up, particulary, in extreme cold weather. Also advisable to let it warm up on the manual bistarter, (sort of choke). with the bike being new then obviosly the engine will be little tight, and should improve as the miles increase.

However there could be a problem -perhaps the tickover may require increasing. This can be done youself, but recomend left to the dealer to sort out.

(there is a screw that should NOT be turned on the fuel injector)!!!

Martyn,

I can't agree with you about warming up on tickover I'm afraid.

That is about the worse thing you can do to a cold engine.

Don't rev it when it starts (that's bad too) but ride it away immediately. Just take it gently for a mile or so.

Dear Trevorch, please talk to your dealer and or Watsonian Squire. My Classic has just gone back for new efi unit after 500 miles and several phone calls!!What state is your plug in after a run?Mine was black and very sooty.Felt that my mixture wasn't right at all and when asking for power distinct lack of oomph!.If it had been an older style of bike would have fiddled a bit with carb but this EFI unit has me baffled. Also agree with PeteF re start and go,also same advice from dealer.Hope things improve for you Cath

Well Peter. I must say I have not heard of any detrimental effects of warming up (slightly) prior to rideing off. In fact  all corespondence I have read, advises to warm up first.(www.enfieldmotorcycles.com)

Addmittedly you should not stand and rev the engine up, and neither should the engine be allowed to stand ticking over for any lenghth of time.

All I am talking about, is as long as it takes to get your helmet and gloves on and shut the garage door. (3-4 minutes)

Regards

4th run today; temp 2C. Same result after 1km, engine cutting out, close throttle picks up, open throttle cuts again. After about1km more, all when back to normal. Have not checked plug condition yet, but fuel economy excellent 3.5L/100 km, compared to old Bullet around 4.7L/100. After I got home, I let it stand for an hour or so, engine just warm to the touch, so went down town to get gas ab´nd no problem, so I guess it is a temperature related effect. When its running its great, so tomorrow I will check plug, connections and try again. Not keen on letting it tick over for long, my view is get it on the road and warm it up gently. The ngine is not as quiet as I had hoped, considering hydralic tappets. I guess the cams and primary chain still work much the same. All good advice and opinions to consider. Thanks all.

Hello again matey---------Just another angle on this one. If that was a brand new Honda / Yamaha / Suzuki / Kawasaki or a new family car---would you be tinkering ??What did it just cost---£5,000 approx ?? You've paid for that warranty (and the technicians in the dealers workshops won't be thanking you for your efforts either----trust me, I've worked there). Do the bike a favour-----take it straight back, ask for it to be rectified and don't forget that courtesy bike in the meantime !!

Hi AlanR, My problem is that the dealer is 100km in Germany and to drive there in this weather would be uncomfortable to say the least. Anyway, if I rode there, it would need at least 4 hours cooling down time to observe the problem. I took the risk on buying from Germany before, because it was worth it. I have written to the German importer to see if the warranty is valid in Switzerland and also asked for technical advice. Never give up, somewhere ther is an answer. Cheers.
