Hi guys I've had this problem now happen twice when I turn the fuel tap on fuel spills out from tickle on carb if I tap the bowl it stops so prob crap in bowl ? So I'm after advice as I've never taken this Amal cover off I'm just woundering do I undo these three screws and look in to see if crap is sitting in there or do I need to check something else just after some help in what to do to see if I can this fix problem

Nothing horrible will happen when you take the cover off. The float and shut off needle is easy to understand. It may be muck or you may need a new needle or just the float sticking. DO NOT over tighten the screws when you reassemble! It is very easy to warp the thin alloy of the cover. A new gasket is a good idea.

Hi Alan yes we have lol but so many comments even on about super unleaded so it really threw me off I just want to know how to check few things to clean the carb out incase any crap is in it I will order a new gasket first if I remove the Amal cover I only want to check before I do a job I've never done before just to be safe and hopefully not screw it up lol thanks Alan

Hi, take care to replace the float spindle brass collar when replacing the float bowl cover.


Just a few comments.


The Monobloc Carburettor is supplied with a fibre washer under the Float Needle Seating. This arrangement sets the fuel level, which for most applications is satisfactory. If poor carburetion is experienced it is advisable to attend to the fuel level setting before replacing the jets or the throttle slide.



NOTE: if the fibre washer is not fully seated in its machined recess in the carb body the float needle seating will not locate accurately and the float will be free to rise to the top of the float bowl without closing off the float needle and flooding will occur.

I know that the "new" Monoblocs are supplied with a fibre washer under the float valve union but the originals weren't and I have come across a couple of instances now where removing the fibre washer fixes this dribble problem. I think what is happening is that the extra height with the washer in place means the needle is operating right at the end of it's travel meaning that the seal is less secure than it might be. Worth a try if the other suggestions don't work.

well would you believe it--- mine's just started to do the same !!! (28mm Mikcarb )

It's also possible that the float, itself, is physically sticking.

Hi COUNT JOHNNY-----well that was a good link with info. that not many might have thought of ( myself included )....which gave me an idea}-- make a transparent cover so you can actually see what's happening ??...Not for permanent fitting but it'd be a useful training aid to demon-strate ( Shades of dear Fred !!) the function of the float, float needle jet etc....Anyone know of a suitable, petrol-proof material ??
