Why do points gaps close up but never back open again and why do radios drift off the station but not back on again?

Ahha! In the southern hemisphere they do!

Just like; why do light-switches turn UP for On in the USA? Coz in the 'new-world' the electrickery flows through the wires in the other direction.

Which is also part of the reason why negative earth bikes perform better in the USA.

Spiraling water down the plug hole etc...

Because it's easier to open up the points gap at the side of the road than close them down ;)

Trust me, points gaps do open up, if you have crappy pattern made points with a soft plastic heel instead of decent fibre ones. To be fair, my Moto Guzzi used to do this until my Italian spares shop advised buying pattern points rather than genuine which fixed the problem! As to radios, no idea, we leave a radio tuned to BBC Radio 4 in the chicken coop (it scares off foxes, they hate Woman's Hour, (joke) as they avoid the human voice apparently) and it often drifts away from station.

Rattlebattle: That's exactly why I was asking in the first place... the bike keeps veering off in the wrong direction. The advantage is that there's no tyre wear, obviously you take them off before running on tracks.
