I need to connect to 12 volts and an earth to power an upgrade to my 2012 Desert storm.

I do not want to go directly to the battery but via the ignition switch.

There are 4 coloured wires on the ignition switch Red, Black, Blue and Blue /white.

Is the red wire 12 volts and the black wire the earth on the ignition switch for a 2012 Desert Storm?

Hi Macca, I'm afraid I can't speak on the EFI electrics, but hopefully this will help and keep your switch intact. On my Triumph Tiger I've taken a couple of accessories off the + feed to the horn, with an earth from the item ( daytime running lights) this has the advantage of not breaking into any wires and works via the ignition switch. Certainly on my Electra the horn and wires are easily accessible.
