Hi all, when removing the pulse air valve system out of the later cast iron 500's, what is the general consensus regarding the carburettor flange? Do you replace the flange to that of the earlier 500's? Or do you cap off the little vacuum line (if that's what it's called..)to ensure the bike doesn't run too lean? I would rather a solution that involves getting rid of the unsightly little vacuum line! Thanks all

I did a similar thing exile, though I replaced the exhaust and put a rubber plug over the hole in the tool box. Is it possible to fit an earlier style rubber carburettor flange to an '05 electric start 500?

Honestly, I have no idea. But I see no reason why it shouldn't fit. After all, it's a flange. Not a complicated part. A quick look through the Hitchcocks parts list might give you an idea.

Here's a picture of mine; I did it to both bikes years ago and no trouble at all.

Removed everything and put a self tapper in. (Kept unscrewing it and ensured absolutely no bits at all got inside.) -Chris

Looks good Chris. Have you bothered to re jet your carb after the removal of the cat converter in the header pipe?

I haven't re-jetted the carb on either bike. Both bikes run just fine. You could just see how yours go and re-jet if you see fit? -C
