Hi all,

I am hoping some wise soul can help me out. I have recently purchased a 1964 Crusader sports which was converted to a Continental GT sometime in the 80's. It has all correct GT parts fitted including the airflow race fairing. The 5 speed box is still in there but try as I may I can't seem to figure out and adjust the gearchange pawl mechanism so that I can select all 5 gears. I have replaced the kickstart pawl and inspected the gears and dogs and they are all fine. I have the manual and have read it and re-read it and attempt to set it as stated but still to no avail. The only wear I can see is on the ratchet mechanism pins that actuate on the backing plate....I gather these are supposed to be perfectly round??

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

Cheers

Hi name far too long to repeat! If you go into Technical Notes on the left sidebar and open "250 Engine Rebuild" you will find a comprehensive explanation of how to assess the condition of the box and adjust it. It is also worth noting that the selector plate should have the number 5 stamped on it for the 5-speed box, the 4 speed version has no marking. This is a common error! There is a very helpful specialist group for the 250s at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Cru ... group/info

haha...Thanks Mark M. My original username was MJB but I cant seem to use that anymore. I have read the hosts 250 engine rebuild and am still none the wiser unfortunately. I'm sure there is just one simple trick I am missing or there is something more sinister happening. Yes my plate does have a 5 stamped on it so I can only assume all the bits are correct. Thanks for the link to the yahoo group, I will check them out.

Cheers
