Meteor Minor side stand

Hi all -- this has got me baffled. 1958 Meteor Minor, can't get the side stand into a suitable position. As it came, the "up" position is OK (1st pic) but in the "down" position it sticks out the side, just below the level of the footpeg (2nd pic).

I can rotate the whole thing so it's in the right place when "down", but then when it's "up" the end of the stand is somewhere up near the top suspension bolt and the spring snags the brake light.

There doesn't seem to be any way to put it together so it works properly. Any suggestions? Ta.

They all do that Sir. I've found on the models with 19" wheels you can get a sort of compromise position (although it's ungainly looking) but that must be even harder on those bikes with 17" wheels. I've seen the stand bent about halfway along to accomodate this but I guess you don't want to do that. Apart from that how's it going?

papasmurf -- not even in the second post?

Going reasonably well Mark, although I've been away and haven't ridden for a couple of weeks. Runs rough from about half throttle upwards, especially when not, not got to the bottom of that yet. Did a 900-mile round trip to Cardiff a few weeks back, the new points I'd put on the previous week failed, once replaced I got back with no further problems.

So is the stand usable? The position it's in at the moment, I think I might as well lay the bike down on its side!

Hi Ed,
Your bike is the same as mine, ie the small frame MM, denoted by the two lugs at the bottom the front downtube, 250 size toolbox with ignition switch on the left.
I will take a couple of photos of my sidestand which works very well.

ED...

Kevin is 1959, with the key on the right toolbox. Let me know if you want detailed photos of the side stand and mounting, and I'll go take them.

I fitted the Hitchcock's indian stand kit so the sidestand spring fouls this a little, but a shove with the foot does it. Anyway, I don't use the side stand...

Oh, might already have a pic???

Here's the answer Simon. The difference is in the angle between the head and the shaft of the stand itself. Maybe a bit of significant bending is the answer after all...
