Sorted, ready to refit wheel after a bit of cleaning and touch up painting in there first. As you say it's a pretty good set up. I bought the R-clip from our hosts to replace the split pin in the castle nut.....although to be honest mine is dull grey rather than the shiny stainless it looks in the catalogue.....still, better than a bent old split pin.

I hate asking daft questions but.....I am refitting my rear wheel after puncture repair, I have the snail adjusters marked as they came off so know the positions OK and wheel alignment and chain tension is fine, but when I tighten the castle nut the right side snail turns as I nip the nut up...how can I stop this, is it just brute force and ignorance or is there a trick? Maybe I'm just tired and it'll work in the morning!!

Alex, Hold the wheel and pull it so that the snail cam is held up against the snail cam pin and then just tighten it up

Grab the wheel with your left hand (just under the mudguard),and pull it towards you to force the snailcam to stay in place as you tighten the castle nut with your right hand. Only slightly brutish.
