15/40 should be OK; 20/50 in hot climates. I would try to obtain a workshop manual or handbook for the model. Most Royal Enfield oil seldom reaches 60C even in the semi-tropics. Ideal temperature should be around 80C.

Recommended grade of oil for UK is 10W40 - a good 'named' semi-synthetic should be ideal in this engine.

15w/40 is the grade recommended in the book for both the engine and primary case. You can use ATF in the primary, although I found no benefit, rather the disadvantage of clutch drag and having to buy another bottle of expensive oil.

The 'book' isn't exclusive to the UK - our hosts recommend (and use) 10W40 in lean burn engines for the UK

20/50 mineral oil won't hurt them, the tuned one with 27000 miles on it has that inside its' engine, gearbox and primary case.

I wouldn't fancy using that and it won't mix with any mineral oil which might be lurking in the engine.
