Leak between exhaust pipe and silencer

I recently bought a new UK-made silencer. There is a leak between the exhaust pipe and the silencer. Apparently the Indian-made exhaust pipe is a bit too "narrow". Even if I turn the clamp very tight, there still is some leakage. What would be the best way to fill this approx. 1mm of space between exhaust and silencer ? Some kind of cloth or filling ?

You could make a wrap around sleeve from aluminium, something like a cut down drinks can.
cut to fit exactly around the pipe with no overlap or gap, then slide the silencer on and tighten clamp..
Wont rust either..

They do sell adaptors but they may be for bigger gaps than it sounds like you have...

Gwilly, thanks a lot for the suggestion. Cutting a wrap from a drinks can: splendid idea !!!!!

I recommend a Guinness can. Drink contents first; if it doesn't work you won't care....
