How do I determine which is the top/above side of a compression ring ? Or is there not a side which has to be up ?
Only one of the compression rings has an indication: one has "TOP C".

Hi Nico, I treat any markings on the face of a piston ring as being on the top face. If there are no markings, fit either way up. Incidentally, in many ring sets, including some seen for Bullets, the top ring may have no markings and a chrome appearance with slightly rounded edges - these can go either way up, the second ring will have 'Top' on one face - this means it is the top face and not the top ring - confusing, but trust me on this. Or, if both compression rings are identical and have the word 'Top' on them, just make sure they are the right way up. This also goes for oil scraper rings. Regards, Paul.

Thanks BW, I got it right. The top ring had no markings, but I put the chrome face with chamfered edge up.
