I fitted one of these about 3,000 miles ago in place of the original cork seal. I've just removed the timing cover to find it very worn. It looks as though the seal has stayed still on the oil feed quill with the oil pump spindle rotating round it (instead of the other way round) I've just fitted a new seal but it looks as though this will do the same thing. Am I fitting it wrong or is this normal? It does seem to stick out of the pinion more than it should and I think it's actually being compress when the timing cover is refitted.

I had exactly the same problem. I put a neoprene seal in the worm in place of the old cork one that was there. It stuck out and just looked bad.
I could see that it would never be any good. I solved the problem by buying a new worm with the bonded in seal from Hitchcocks. It was perfect
and fitted up strait away. I have done over 1000 KM's and it is still as good as when I put it in. It looks like it will last a lot of years.
