Gearbox sprocket nut

Can anyone help? I am trying to remove the gearbox sprocket on my 2008 EFI and the nut that holds it is 46mm. Does anyone know if this is a LH or RH thread? It is a thin nut and very tight, I don't want to force it the wrong way. I am assuming it is standard thread but I have been caught out in the past. The workshop manual doesn't help much.
Thanks in advance.
Tom

From memory the thread is conventional IE anti clockwise, When I changed my front sprocket I left the chain on and with the bike in gear, locked the back wheel to undo the nut, it all came apart very easily.

Thanks Hagis, I will put a little more umph to it. I have the block out as I am stripping the whole thing so can't use the same technique as you.

Whack the spanner with a big hammer, brute force & pig ignorance often works

Just before you try Beezabryan's idea, have a look at this picture. The LHT sometimes have a groove, as shown.

Definitely normal thread (anticlockwise to loosen). I've occasionally used a length of old exhaust pipe over a big spanner for extra leverage (e.g. for exhaust nuts).

Hello Tom, in a general matter, all the nuts that are on moving parts (engine crankshaft, gearbox shafts and so) are right thread on the left side on the bike, and left thread on the right one. Hope it will help you. Claude

Air or electric torque gun is the best bet. I got mine for exactly this job and never looked back. Normal thread as far as I recall.

Thanks for all your replies. As it turned out the brute force option worked! Because the nut is so thin it was difficult to get a firm purchase so needs two of us. Once I had cracked it came off easily. Thanks again, Tom

The EFI manual says, NOTE care to be taken while fixing FD sprocket, direction circular groove index mark facing outwards, Assemble lock washer and nut toque to 7.5KG-M. Lock the tab over the FD sprocket nut.
