Front brake problems

Having been given a 1989 Indian market 350 Bullet which was imported to the UK in 1996 has been stood in a garage since 1998 and has only covered 1760 KM. I have after cleaning and minor fettling had it running and it runs sweetly.
So I decided I could not live with the rusty rims on the wheels so took advantage of Hitchcocks splendid offer of a pair of wheels with a total delivered cost of £144.
I took the front wheel out tonight and removed the brake, speedo drive, spindle and bearings only to find that although it is a full width hub same as the new one the size is different, the old one is a 6" the new one is 7" the bearings are the same but it looks like the spindle may also be slightly different in its length. I can not find any info on this and I am a bit stuck on what to do next
As can be seen by my nickname I have always been a BSA man so have little knowledge of Enfield's, any advice would be welcome
