Hi Chaps, I'm in the planning stage of changing the chain and sprockets on my EFI classic 500. Apart from hosts chain and sprocket set, is there anything else I need? Gaskets or seals? And any potential Pit falls to be avoided please?

I'd be interested in this too. I imagine our hosts would be happy to advise. My experience so far with them has been excellent, even to the point of advising me not to buy a certain part as not being necessary when buying a new silencer. So you know you'll get fair and impartial guidance.

The 19 tooth gearbox sprocket is a sensible upgrade. It has made a big difference to mine at higher speeds. You may also need access to a puller as it can be difficult to get the sprocket off.

I had the bigger gearbox sprocket fitted last month at the 26000 mile service and have done about 1500 miles since. I would say it is worth doing if you are having a new chain and sprockets anyway, as I was. It doesn't seem to make much difference at the top end (it is only 6% higher) but cruising at 60 is a bit more relaxed. The biggest difference is that the intermediate gears are also longer and much better suited to UK roads, so big roundabouts, road junctions and 30/40 speed limits now have a gear that suits. 4th is a much more usable overtaking gear. It is much nicer to ride, especially on B roads, where it is a lot quicker more of the time. Fuel consumption hasn't changed noticeably. Hope that helps.
