M20 style panniers for C5 Classic?

Following Scalyback's post about the WDCO bike, I would really like to try and add some WD M20 style pannier frames and a luggage rack to my battle green C5 classic. (Thanks to Claude for pointing towards the m20 panniers. So I guess the look I'm going for is something like this....

Having a look around, there are plenty of the pannier frames and bags on offer (from rusty vintage to indian replica, around £120-200 per pair). But to get the right look, the pannier frames need to be mounted quite far back, behind the pillion pad, ending about as far back as the number plate.

So I think I need to get the luggage rack to mount the frames on too. Draganfly have the part listing, but out of stock and made for BSA so may not fit enfield (without encouragement/adaptation).

Does anyone know where I might source a rack like this, or get something similar made? Cheers.

Hello 25 Tom,

The 66-6915 parts were common (untill 1942, or around) to all the WD motorcycles. If you go to the 1945 CO Parts Book online (page 20), you'll see a frame quite different from the M20. The problem is that they are made for rigid frame bikes. BUT, have a look to the BSA WD40, they have suspended rears, and the panniers look very close to the rigid WD ones. Here is a photo of one :

It would be interesting to go in this direction.
Hope it will help you
Claude

I've been put in touch with 'one-off welding & engineering' (www.oneoffwe.co.uk), who should be able to fabricate something very similar to the WD rack, but adapted for the 'suspended' C5 rear end, to which I will mount reproduction WD M20 pannier frames from India. I'm going to see them with the bike next month, to work out the design and costs. Will keep folk updated, just in case anyone else is interested in a similar idea. Cheers.
