Still progressing with my 1960 350 Bullet project, last 6 weeks or so spent working on sidecar body and frame, struggled making perspex curved windscreen also been painting body coloured parts and rebuilding seat and seat supports . I have also sourced new fork legs and twin leading shoe brakes. Now on the hunt for a 18 inch back wheel to replace the 17 I have fitted. Still waiting for space on our club bike bay but its available from the end of the month so the mechanical work can begin. I am trying to identify the engine it has a cast iron head and I was told on buying it had a clipper engine, the engine number is 694 ,again I read that clipper engines had 4 digits and bullets had 5 digits ( the v 5 has a 5 digit engine number)

As well I have just found a rebuilt 350 on e_ bay from a 1977 bullet will this fit? .

Coming for a lie down in a dark room

Arty, that sounds like a Clipper engine to me, I have some REOC dated Clipper cases with a number very close to that. That bit about 4 and 5 figure numbers means nothing and is wrong anyway! Sounds like you are making good progress though. My Mk1A Interceptor is getting on well (fingers crossed) see thread Now I know where the squirrel hides his nuts!

Hi Arty,

I seem to recall the iron head was fitted to the 1958 Clipper with the 19" wheels while later ones had alloy heads same as the Bullet. Yours might be something of a bitsa...

If you want to further bitsa-ify you 350 (and why not?) the good news is that the Indian classic Bullet engine and gearbox, as well as the lean burn variants, whether 350 or 500, will bolt straight into the Redditch Bullet/Clipper/twin frame. The 5 speed gearbox will also fit, ideally in right foot shift trim. Just fill in the new engine details in the V5C changes section, send it in to DVLA for an updated V5C and let your insurer know.
