Headlamp adjustment

Hello all.

Can anyone advise me as to how to adjust the angle of the headlight beam with a headlamp mounted in the famous RE nacelle?

Loosening the top screw in the chrome shell offers some play but appears to move the lamp forward resulting in a gap which leaves it open to the elements.

Can't see anything helpful in the Handbook.

Any advice gratefully received.

Happy summer riding!

Take the rim off and the adjuster is on the inside?

May be model dependent I think there are two small screws in the inner chrome ring underneath in slots. Loosen the screws adjust and re tighten.

If it's the non adjustable 7" headlamp on your bike the easiest option is to bend the tangs on the headlight bulb.

Or just buy a Chinese bulb they are already bent!

The 7"?

the two lower screw do have slots, but not much adjustment.

Bending the headlamp tabs does work with assymetrical and H4 types, If BPF, then get a bigger tyre, put on front to move beam up, put on rear to move beam down! ... NEXT!

Hi Rich

The "famous" Royal Enfield nacelle was actually called a "Casquette" (French for cap!)

It was Triumph who coined the term "Nacelle" !

RE your original question, which bike are you referring to? and Scalyback just beat me to it! the wheel size will make a difference if the front and rear are of different diameters!>br>

Thanks for those comments all.

The bike in question is a 2011 Electra EFI.

Changing tyres to adjust the headlamp beam seems a bit extreme - and it still has the factory fitted Avons; there must be a better way (?) - I would hope.

When my 2009 Electra Efi went for its first mot the headlamp beam was to high, the only way to adjust this was to bend the tangs on the H4 bulb to bring the beam down, plus a short length of electrical cable fitted behind the top tang to push the bulb down, It was noticed at the time that the bulb was a special in that the ring with the tangs on was set at an angle, all the H4 bulbs I have seen have the ring fixed at 90 degrees to the bulb but this one was angled to make the beam shine down? If at some time in its life a standard H4 bulb had been fitted you would never get the beam to pass a mot, So out there in RE land there is a special bulb for this job.

Upon my Electra X’s first visit to a MoT station the headlight was pointing skyward and the examiner was about to fail the machine because between me and him we couldn’t find any adjustment. The problem turned out to be the headlamp peak (Hitchcocks – 200036) fitted by the previous owner, it locates between the chrome bezel and lense hence forcing the top edge of the lense backwards.Hey Rich, dya wanna buy a headlamp peak, going cheap. (If your beam is too low you could always fit it round the bottom of the bezel).
