If I intend to have my Classic Bullet EFI serviced regularly at the intervals recommended in the owners manual, at what mileage intervals is it necessary, if at all, to apply chain lube between services?

I spray mine with Castrol Chain lube when it looks a bit dry or after heavy rain or washing the bike.

There is no hard and fast rule. I tend to apply chain lube about once a week (my weekly mileage is about 200), but I look out for the chain being too dry. Using this regime, I find that I don't have to adjust the chain too often, but I replaced the standard chain for a Reynolds item from our hosts at about 8000 miles. This has needed little adjustment so far. Hope this helps!

I like the 'dry' spray chain lube Mr H sells. Oil on the chain may look ok but in truth attracts grit making a horrible black grinding paste.


I take the chain off a couple of times a year to throughly clean it and then just spray it when it looks like it needs it. The results speak for themselves, I've not had to adjust the chain for wear in years. My 500 doesn't spit oil out as as I have the modified breather and I have redirected the duckbill to eject any nasty acids or water out the side away from both the chain and tyre.

I have done around 1200 miles since getting the bike in mid October - so around 300 a month. And I have applied chain lube just monthly so far. There are no references to this in the owners manual among the routine maintenance tips, hence my question. I'll probably stick to once a month.

I use a Scottoiler. It lubes the chain and keeps it clean. Works well, a bit pricey but pays for itself if you intend to keep the bike.
