Carb/idle issues

Hi again,

Got a small issue with idleing on my 350.

I've stripped and rebuilt the carb, really good clean, new gaskets and seals throughout. I rejetted it based on Hitchcocks recommendations as I fitted a bell mouth filter and it already had what I think is the Megaphone silencer fitted. So the jetting is now is 105 main, 27.5 pilot and a standard needle. The bike actually accelerates really well and cleanly, pulls strongly etc. The only issue I seem to be having is a getting a good clean idle.

It doesn't smoke particularly badly and it starts up very easily but it seems to have a mind of its own if it idles well or not. It will either idle fine or it will starg idling fast or it will die then I need to either choke it or turn up the idle speed screw to get it to restart. I seem to be constantly tinkering with the idle speed or air screw to get a good idle.

Also I noticed today that it spurted out some fuel from the bottom of the carb about 3 times. Just 3 squirts of fuel then it stopped.

I'm guessing this could be an issue with incorrectly adjusted or stuck float bowl and the pilot jet is rich?

Yes, and or a choke not seating fully, or a leaky seal around the top of the choke shaft..?

Hi Si81

I've a similar set up with a 100 main- which I'm changing up to 105 at the weekend to (hopefully) eliminate the 3/4-WOT misfire.

With the 27.5 pilot, I need to be at least 3 turns out on the mixture to weaken off sufficiently, so I may even go back to trying the 25 and see how I get on.

Float level and needle valve definitely a good place to start.

Another vote for float height.
