Hi All
Some help please. What's the best way to make up straps for an N1 Mag on my 51 Bullet? I guess I could cut down the Magdyno straps or start from scratch, does anyone have drawings perhaps? Cheers

Hi Charlie, I modified standard ones some time ago, shorten at the bottom end not at the trunion. I'm sure someone can give you the measurements. Vince. PS have you checked our host, they may have some in stock .

Thanks Gents. I just checked with 'Mr H' and the answer is the RE Fury was built with an N1 Mag! but they don't sell the straps. Have ordered the full length ones so I'll shorten them like Vince did. Cheers

Hi Charlie, give me a shout if you want some pictures etc of how I modified some magdyno straps to hold an N1 magneto down on a '55 Woodsman / Bullet 500cc engine. Regards, Paul.

Thanks Mark I've ordered straps from Mr H now so I'll need to modify.
Paul if you could tell me what length (centre to centre) you cut to that would be great? no need for photos I can picture the finished job. Cheers

Hi Charlie, I never took measurements, but I cut each strap about halfway along and then cut about an inch off two of each of the resulting 'halves', one for each strap. I then placed the magneto in position, with the bottom halves of the straps in place on the crankcase studs and placed the top sections over the magneto, held together with the adjustable trunion done up about 1/3 of the way and marked where the sections met, these overlapping by an inch or so each. I then removed the straps, ready for brazing. I drilled a hole near the end of one half of each strap, so that when I overlapped them and brazed them together, there was better penetration of the braze because I was able to braze through the hole into the other section, as well as at the overlapping ends. Hope this helps! Regards, Paul.

Hi Charlie, I've just measured the original mag straps on my 1959 Works Replica which has the Wader version of the N1 magneto. (I am giving the bike a winter refresh so this is easy to get at!) They are 5" centre to centre as best I can measure using a steel tape.
