Hi Peeps



I know what the aforementioned tool, found here, is supposed to do (i.e. keep the weights fully extended whilst you check the timing), but how is it actually used? Is it mounted behind the CB plate? If so, how do you get it back out again without altering the timing? If not, where does it go?

And out of interest, at what revs would the weights be fully advanced?

It's fitted behind the bolt that holds the advance and retard unit onto its shaft. You should be able to remove it without disturbing anything other than the bolt itself although removal of the points plate would be required to get the bob weights fully open to begin with.

The points cam is free to advance/retard independently of the holding bolt in the centre. The locking device is fitted behind the bolt head and bears against the cam thus holding it steady. You just need to move the cam round to full advance (against the sprigs) and nip up the bolt.
