Latest episode in an occasional series: Having got fed up with the Connie bitsa needing to be moved every time I wanted to get to the bike lift for something else (usually teething troubles with the 66 Interceptor,) I decided to take the thing to bits as that'll take up less room, logical, yes? First difficulty was getting the heads off but patience succeeded. Then getting the timing gear off the end of the crank, fortunately I have the correct tool for this. With the engine down to the cases, inspection showed the big and small ends a touch loose (as well as the drive side main bearing, which is why I took it off the road,) so a full rebuild needed. It seemed like a good idea to strip the frame right down at this point as it's easier to lift the bare frame off the engine than lift the engine out, especially as this bike has been (wrongly) fitted with the stiffening block from a late Connie or Interceptor making the engine unit much longer. Would the swinging arm spindle come out? Not a bit of movement. Much oiling and careful bashing (!) later, out it slid. The inner spindle sleeve is stuck in the bushes but I can do that later. Forks came apart no problem. Now I've just got to work out where to put all the bits!

By the way, although I titled this Connie Corner, what I meant to do was start a "What I did on my Enfield(s)" thread like some motoring sites have! Please feel free to add your experiences...

Mark,
Just a word of warning, never put the bits in a basket, you often hear of "A basket case"on ebay

Today I got the inner swing arm spindle sleeve and bronze bushes out. Now I can clean up the main components and get them away to be blasted ready for paint. I can do small parts myself in the bead blast cabinet my mate Neil has lent me. The aim is to get these bits Hammerited while the weather is warm as this paint works best above 21 degrees. That's if it's not pi**ing down!
