1959 Connie steering damper

Hi.as a newbie here I hope someone can tell me why the damper shown in hitchcocks and elsewhere shows two friction discs but only two damper plates. Surely two discs should be sandwiched between 3 plates as I cannot believe the top disc locates directly under the lower yoke as seems the case from the drawing. Thanks. Dez

The illustration in the Parts Book is misleading. The lower fork yoke for the models fitted with steering dampers has a steel disc brazed to it's underside. The upper steel disc has a bracket which bolts to a lug on the headstock. It all makes sense when you put it together with the right parts, trust me!

many thanks Mark. There is no disc on the underside of the yolk so will try and fabricate a disc to act as a bearing surface for the friction pad. REgards Dez

Dez, if you look in Used Parts our Hosts have a second hand yoke and damper assembly. If you phone them I reckon they'll have just the bottom yoke, ask for Wayne, he does the s/h bits!
