How do I remove the ammeter on my 08 Electra X? Perhaps I'm a bit thick this evening but I can't see for the life of me what's holding it in place....
Many thanks, Pete

Pete,
Nothing is holding it in, it is a push fit in the rubber ring

Hello PETE ------------- the answer to your question is " Carefully". a) Have you disconnected the battery earth cable ?? and --b) As NORM says, it's a push-fit into a rubber grommet which, over time, "grows" onto the body and casquette. Take your time and gently introduce something like WD40 etc into the mating faces. I find a thin, flat-bladed electrical screwdriver helps to start the ball rolling. Once the oil is into the joint it's just a matter of applying a firm yet constant pressure from underneath and eventually the Ammeter will just "pop" out. I changed the casquette on my Bullet 65 a few years back and used that method, Also works for removing stubborn throttle or handlebar grips as well.

.... and to put it back they recommend a bit of talcum powder. I've done it; it works and smells lovely.....

Thanks for that Chaps. It's as I thought but didn't want to do too much damage with my brute force and ignorance! Cheers Peter.

PETE -------- there's plenty of ignorance out here, mate---do want a slice ?? CHRIS (STOCKPORT)---MMMM !! Have you tried Baby's Bottom grade ?? It's a particularly fine & "Cheeky" powder with just that hint of the aromatic, yet without being too presumptuous. Highly recommended.
