Instead of posting a plug problem, I'd thought I'd post the opposite!
I did intend to see just how long it would last before misfiring but a few days ago decided to change the BPR6ES which I originally fitted in place of stock item. It's been totally problem free and having checked my paperwork has been in the bike for 14,800 miles.
Its replacement has the open side of the electrode gap facing the inlet valve so should offer a slightly more favourable burn that this one which didn't

A pair of Champions in the Flash since 2006 and an NGK iridium in t' Bullet since 2010

Plugs can and do last, I have the same pair of Champion plugs in my Triumph Tiger 90 which I fitted when I restored the bike in 1990 and still going strong.

With no lead in the fuel to short them out as long as the mixture is right they can last almost forever. Hence the modern habit of placing them in inaccessable places. I had a 166 Alfa once that was nearly an engine out to replace the plugs. They were however to be replaced after 180,000kms after the second cam belt according to the service manual. Sadly we never got that far

With the low mileage some of us do; a Iridium plug should last for 100 years.

The NGK plugs in my little Perodua (a Malaysian built Daihatsu)are coming up to 80,000 miles, and have never been touched.
On the other hand, I put some NGK's in my Tiger 90 and had constant problems, breaking down every few miles. I replaced them with Champions and the old lady runs as sweet as. The NGK's, after examination, were found to be snide and the parts market is apparently flooded with them so be aware if you use fleabay.
