I am just about to take delivery of a new Electra Deluxe here in France. Can anybody out there give me any tips about running in or things to look out for/general care etc, please? The last British bike I rode was a Triumph T100ss and that was some years ago....
Many thanks.

Hi Mick, welcome to the fold. You are bound to have one or two niggles during your ownership but there is alot of help at hand either on this forum or the US forum which has a special section for us UCE owners.

I followed this guys running in method as it seems to make sense.Have never been impressed by the thrash it school of running in.
Check your wiring as it can be a bit agricultural to say the least and keep an eye on various bolts as they will need tightening at some point.
The oil level can be a bit confusing as it goes up and down in a rather worrying fashion esp if you use the sidestand. It all seems to disappear into the left side and takes all day to trickle back. All part of the learning process.I'm sure the lads will have many more useful tips as I can only speak from my limited experience. But do enjoy the journey..you'll be riding with a smile.Cath

Run it in as per the manufacturers instructions or the 'old way', the yanks dont know s--t about engines, they stole any knowledge from other countries, and an Enfield really does want T.L.C., its a great bike and grows on you, anything you need to know will be on this site ,just ask.

Sorry to have to put you straight MickB but you've bought an Indian bike, not a British bike. It's probably got a label somewhere that says "made in India". But not to worry you'll still have fun riding it and if you believe half of what is written here, fixing it too. However I've been on Indian Enfields for over 30 years and still have n't managed to break one yet so you may be disappointed on that score.
Run it in long and slow, about 3 or 4 thousand miles the engine will be getting nice and loose. Change the oil as often as you can and look out for bit shaking and vibrating off before every ride. That all that is required.
Have fun : )

Thanks all for the advice. Picking the beast up on Tuesday so watch this space. I bought the bike primarily for touring, trips back to the UK etc. I'm assuming long runs at moderate speeds should not be a problem while running in? Never been a thrasher of bikes since I learnt my lesson on my Triumph many years ago when I manged to snap the crank shaft and push it through the bottm of the crank case (metal fatigue and excess revs..). More of a plodder now so hopefully won't have to many problems.
