If I want to remove the two shafts and pinions from the inside of the gearbox, is that possible with the gearbox still in the frame ? Or is it a lot easier to take it out in order the check the gear shifting ?

Nico, you can remove nearly everything with the gearbox in the frame. The exceptions are the internal gear selector fork, the mainshaft sleeve, the gearbox sprocket and the bearing and the bush inside the drive (left) end of the gearbox case. You will have to take the clutch off though. What do you intend to do?

Hi Mark, thanks for your reply. I have gear shifting problems. Well, the gearbox was difficult from when I bought it, but it has gotten worse. I thought it was the ratchet gear selection assembly, but it isn't. I can shift inside the gearbox with my hand, but it is too rigid, or stiff. There must be serious friction somewhere.

Nico, it's difficult to say where the problem might lie so I'd take it apart one step at a time and check the ease of gear changing as you strip it. Start with the detent plunger assembly first (if you've already checked the other components in the outer cover) as this can break up or seize with rust. If it does go solid, the gear changing will be very hard. Then try removing the clutch completely and check that, especially the ball race on the inner drum. Then if you don't find the answer it's into the main box I'm afraid!

Nico, If you put the bike on centre stand with the rear wheel off the ground and can engage all the gears by moving the wheel backward and forwards your issue could well be the clutch. How is the shifting problem showing itself? Do you have clutch drag?

Hi Mark and Paul,
I need to check a few things before I can reply to you....

Hi Mark and Paul,
the Bullet is on the road again, and shifts like a dream

I replaced a spring in the ratchet, the ratchet itself, and the housing of the ratchet.
I also replaced the detent plunger. It never shifted so well
