Perhaps something with a similar tread pattern as the rear..

Not sure if mixing brand/tread types is a good idea much like cars, just incase overall performance is somehow impaired..

Other opinions are available shortly..

My 2009 Electra e5 has done over 10,000 mls on Avon Roadrider tyres, the front is still the original fitment and still has a few thousand mls left in it, rear tyres wear out quicker, so its on its second Avon Roadrider, the rears do about 6,000 mls,I would rate the Avon tyres better than the Pirelli sport demons fitted on my CGT.

I've just put Mitas tyres on the front and back of my B44 Bsa and I am delighted with them. They are modern compound in traditional patterns and the are cheap. Apparently owned now by Michelin and manufactured in the Czech Republic inthese days where all tyres are made in Taiwan, China and India as well as other small third world countries a Czech tyre seems like a prefectly good option.

Avon tyres are still made in Britain where they know what our roads are like.

I've had issues with greasy indonesian/malaysian tyres on the car and only stick to big-name brands there. Michelin are a good car tyre make but they do own a number of other companies who are not. Mitas/Savatech specialise (main business) in fork-lift and tractor tyres, they are owned by CGS Holding AS.

I am quite interested in the Avon Trail Rider which are a 4-season enduro-type tyre whereas the RoadRiders are not. If I can find sizes to fit! I've use 4-season "M+S" tyres on the car for the last few years and noticed vastly improved grip on cold wet roads. Has anyone used these?

I have a Mitas on the back and a Metzler on the front. Handling is fine. Certainly better than the o/e tyres.

I tried Mitas and quite frankly they scared me sh**less. I took them off and scrapped them within a few miles. Sometimes things are cheap for a reason. Now using Dunlop K82 which is the TT100 tread on a modern tyre and they feel just fine and suit the Tiger 90 particularly well although the Oilfield is good too. No problems with Avons but avoid the dreaded Skidmasters even if they're free.
